A GREAT BIG "HOWDY" AND WELCOME TO THE ROCKIN' R STUDIO/GALLERY. The roots of the ROCKIN' R are planted in the colorful culture and arts of the American West, but we apprecate many forms of creative expression. This short history of the ROCKIN' R is just a small overview of a very large adventure in the art and music of America that we have been having for over two decades now. We think you will enjoy our story. The theatres and entertainment places across America played the biggest role in making the ROCKIN' R a reality. With Michael Martin Murphey leading the way on WILDFIRE the trail has visited some 3,200 concert halls, auditoriums and movie sets- spreading a unique brand of music, art and fun. We have also been on TV shows like THE TONITE SHOW, THE GRANDE OLE OPRY or AUSTIN CITY LIMITS that you may have enjoyed in your home. You can bet it's a thrill sharing those stages with some of the most beloved names in the world of American entertainment! They include: ROY ROGERS, RIDERS IN THE SKY, RICKY SKAGGS, DOLLY PARTON, ALLISON KROUSE, EMMY LOU HARRIS, VINCE GILL, GENE AUTRY, THE DIRT BAND, THE TEXAS PLAYBOYS, ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL, THE BEACH BOYS, WILLIE NELSON, MERLE HAGGARD, THE DIXIE CHICKS, LYLE LOVETT, JOHHNY CASH, BERNADETTE PETERS, CLINT EASTWOOD and REBA MCENTIRE!
Expressing our appreciation for America's heroes through art is a big part of this adventure. Our tribute to JOHN WAYNE was presented to his family from the Governor and citizens of Texas. A portrait commissioned by GEORGE STRAIT was printed and sold to thousands of his fans at his concerts. A sculpted figure of MURPHEY is popular with his fans. The most "magical" of these tributes was of WALT DISNEY for diplay at WALT DISNEY WORLD. Walt was a genius in the fine art of "creating happiness." Having a piece at a DISNEY resort is one of the best "thrill rides" that's come along the ROCKIN' R art-adventure trail. It's a blessing to participate in an event that has featured many of the artitsts mentioned above called WEST FEST. The largest WEST FEST'S have played host to 40,000 people in a single weekend! (By the way the next one is July 4th weekend at SNOWMASS, COLORADO.) Among the most memorable experiences was a TNN special starring ROY ROGERS, DALE EVANS and RANDY TRAVIS called HAPPY TRAILS. The show which featured music and stories around the chuckwagon was so full of old-fashond fun and heart-warming fellowship it inspired a long time commitment to helping keep ROY and DALE'S HAPPY TRAILS legacy alive and also set the pattern for expansion here at the ROCKIN' R. Many of the guests at art events here tell us they are looking forward to the day they can gather here with friends and family to enjoy some "chuckwagon" music (and food) in the HAPPY TRAILS spirit. WE AGREE! We hope this helps give you an idea of what has created this wonderful place where these experiences in show business and art have come together. Now many of the folks we meet along the trail [who make the ROCKIN' R dream a reality!] are visiting here to recall great moments as well as recharge the mind and refuel the spirit with beautiful vistas, music, art and great western fun!
